Royal Copenhagen
Seoul, Sungsu cafe
Inspired by the prestigious heritage of Royal Copenhagen’s signature royal blue flower, we have created the Royal Flower.
We merge Korean and Danish traditions by incorporating Korean traditional paper and the structure of the Korean hand fan, connecting the cultural legacies of both countries.
"Seongsu-dong in Seoul is known as a pop-up mecca for brands. In a space with high ceilings and large windows, we hung an object reinterpreting Royal Copenhagen's symbol, the Royal Flower, to recreate a glamorous tea-time picnic indoors."
"We have created the petals of the flower by adopting the traditional Korean fan-making technique. The process involves carefully spreading thin wooden slats to form the frame and layering Hanji paper on top, requiring meticulous craftsmanship. The delicate colors of Korean Hanji are used to express the royal Copenhagen blue. The layers of Hanji overlap, and when exposed to sunlight, its transparency becomes more pronounced, highlighting the unique texture of the paper. Thus, this artwork is an original object that utilizes Korea's traditional techniques and materials."
